Help! I've Chopped My Hair and Now I'm Lost...

As anyone with eyes can see, the Pixie or the Crop haircut has been all the rage. While some ladies would never dream of growing out their beloved short style, others can't wait for it to be long.

Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot you can do once you've chopped your hair other than...

Let. It. Grow! This seems simple but your hair will go through so many horrifying stages that you will want to come in for a cut. Don't do it. Push through! The really terrifying styles typically only last about 2-3 weeks before your new thought is "Oh! This isn't so bad, I can do this!"

At the salon we do neck/bang trims in between your haircut and these are life savers. It's enough of a shape up to make it through the bad time, but not enough of a cut to set you back.

I am currently growing out my pixie from the summer and let me tell you...I haven't had a full on haircut since June. I have changed the color, which is a wonderful way to fight boredom while growing out, and the back has been cut two or three times to become the almost bob that it is today. It's not so pretty in between. Bobby pins are a life saver and any of us in the salon can show you how to pin back during the painful stages. I also found this blog that had some great tips (and is a great site in general for beauty-holics) on growing out your hair.

Google is also your friend. I have googled Sienna Miller, Emma Watson, Mandy Moore, and Kirsten Dunst all growing out their hair. My personal favorite is Freja Beha Erichsen. So Google away and be strong!!

Pretty is In!

It's no secret that TV is taking over Hollywood, everyone has something they are completely addicted to. I will refrain from sharing my list because it is embarrassingly long, but I know I am not alone.

The women of TV have stepped it up and did not disappoint! Rose Byrne was definitely my top choice. Her two piece outfit was so timeless and looked as though it was made for her! January Jones was my close second, in a very similar look with very similar hair (I can't help it, I know what I like!) and I am so glad to report the rest of the women looked like classy, feminine, beautiful women! That seems like a redundant statement but we have all seen the sad state of affairs some of thee young ladies are in.

So, when you're getting ready for your next event from date night to black tie wedding, think soft waves, soft smokey eyes, and crazy amounts of girliness! I think Grace Kelly and Ms. Hepburn would be proud of these top looks...

The Most Important Hairstyles of Nicolas Cage's Life.

Just ask Hubert de Givenchy who once said "Hair is the final tip-off whether or not a woman really knows herself'", hair is quite essential to creating your look. I believe M. Givenchy would have been wiser to include men in that statement. I'll use Nicolas Cage as my exhibit A:

LA FAMA!

As some of you probably already know Stephanie, her husband Robert and I just returned from a long weekend in Miami. What were we doing in Miami? We were at Oribe's nearly annual Backstage event which is a weekend full of inspiration, parties, glamour and fun! It also happened to be the launch of his new products and a chance for us to be among the first to experience them. I can assure you that there is something for all of you and they are pretty incredible! There are three new mousses; one for big ol' hair called Grandiose, one for beach bomb locks called Beachcomber, and one for curls (finally!) called  Curl mousse. There is a fantastic new dry spray called Thick and it does exactly what it says it will and finally Soft, a dry conditioner to keep those ends glistening on the second, third and so on and so forth amount of days. I can't wait to teach all the salon about them and try them on you!

I came across this video and some pictures from V Magazine, a frequent employer of Oribe himself, that will give you a little look into our evening of La Fama! You can also check out Oribe Hair Care on Pinterest and they have an entire board dedicated to Backstage.

On another note we stayed at the Raleigh in South Beach and could not have been more pleased with wonderful customer service, a gorgeous lobby, a pool that basically sends you to another place, and very cozy beach chairs! There is also a wonderful martini bar in the lobby serving great old fashioned drinks made by a NYC trained bartender. Everything about the hotel was a dream and I highly recommend it!

I sort of fell in love with Miami while I was there. Everything was over the top (in a good way, for the most part), they had art galleries at the outdoor mall, the gorgeous art deco buildings, the food was amazing, shopping was great and there is something pretty sultry about the hot and humid air...or maybe it's all the gorgeous people there! Either way I cannot wait to go back!

Season of Change

As usual, every season there is a new "must have" hair do and I must say this summer it appears to be cropped locks! This is my personal favorite haircut. I have always felt that if you can pull off a pixie, it's probably your best look (Hello, Halle Berry!).

This cut is by no means new and it has most definitely been done before many times. What makes it very now is the disconnected, sharp, super short dramatic style worn by Miley Cyrus, Ginnifer Goodwin, Pink, and Rihanna to name a few.

It seems as though someone that has this cut is stuck with it until they decide to begin the painful (and it can be incredibly painful) process of growing it out. I feel that that could not be further from the truth. This is actually one of the most noticeably versatile cuts around. If you look at Michelle Williams she has had about 67 variations of a pixie all within one calendar year. It's quite remarkable what a few extra weeks of grow out will do!

These are just a few looks... Don't forget to Google Winona Ryder, Audrey Hepburn, Charlize Theron,   Jean Seberg, Emma Watson, and Carey Mulligan to get you started on a search.

See how a quick swipe of some Rock Hard Gel and a hot blow dryer will do. Completely different looks from the same cut!

This is just one of her fantastic short cuts!

And why not take this opportunity to try out a new color?! Your hair will be so short that if you get bored or hate it, it'll be cut out before you know it.

Feeling inspired or excited but still unsure? Just ask us! We will talk you through it and decide which look (if any) would be the short crop for you.

Who, What, WEAR, When...

Just incase you have missed the memo or missed one of us talking about it in the salon, fashion week has arrived! Here is a little extra info and some links if are still feeling a little out of the loop.

Who:
Any and all Nashvillians (or visiting friends and family) that want to be a part of Nashville's budding fashion industry. Or just anyone who likes to party and look good!

What:
Nashville Fashion Week (NFW) Just incase you haven't heard of this yet, this will be the third annual fashion week this lovely city has hosted. It is a chance for smaller and even some local designers to showcase their best work and a chance for Nashville to show off some of it's best venues! These events are held all over town and accompanied by sponsored shopping days, brunches, and of course, after parties. Check out Nashville Fashion Week's site for tickets and an event calendar.

Where: Starting on Tuesday there will be runway shows everyday until Saturday and this year all of us at Salon Nfuse will be doing the hair for the runway shows on Thursday. And this year we are serving up something a little different, it is a late morning show at the Belmont Mansion followed by brunch at Belmont Boulevard's newest restaurant blvd. It is the new restaurant by Arnold Mynt and we will be there so we would love to see some familiar faces! The designers we are proud to be working with are Nashville's own Modern Trousseau and Memeka by Gustavo Cadile. You can check out their stunning designs here and here

(Wear): Whatever you are feeling! Fashion (hair included!) is a wonderful way to put your best you on display. We are always here (except for this Thursday) for any blowout or sexy beach, Victoria's Secret hair situation.

When: All this week starting Tuesday. We would be thrilled to see all of our Nfuse family on Thursday and would love even more to hear about your other NFW shenanigans. Please check out the schedule on their site posted above and don't hesitate to follow them on Facebook (Nashville Fashion Week) and on Twitter @NashFashWeek. Don't forget to also follow Salon Nfuse on Facebook and on Twitter @salonnfuse.

Do You Guys Really Use This Stuff?

That is a question we get all the time in the salon, mostly concerning Oribe products. The answer is not only "Yes!" but "Of Course!", maybe even "Duh!".

I am so passionate about these amazing products (life changing, really) that I would do just about anything to get a job with them. Don't worry, I won't be giving up this job anytime soon but as an educator... even an assistant. I love them that much.

I want to take a moment to properly (after two and a half years!) introduce everyone to our product lines and I'm starting with Oribe.

I'll start with the pronunciation, Or-bay. Not exactly how it looks but once you get it it will roll off the tongue. Oribe is more than a  product line, it happens to be the name of a very talented Cuban man. He has most definitely been one of the most influential hairstylists of the past 30 years and is one of the reasons that I do hair. In 2011 he styled 9 of the 12 American Vogue covers and has worked with countless celebrities, some of the more notable include Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, and Scarlett Johansson but I could go on and on. He is a true artist and such an inspiration. He has collected a team of amazing people (from his business partners, to the office ladies, and the educators) to make an exceptional boutique company that he has put his heart and soul into. Not to mention, styling products that once you find your match, you can't live without.

The proof is in the internet. Everywhere from some of my favorite hair and makeup artists that I follow on Instagram to huge sites like thebeautydepartment.com feature Oribe products regularly. They have also won numerous Editor's Choice awards and Reader's Choice awards in many a magazine. I strongly encourage you to Google.

Follow them on Twitter and Instagram @oribehaircare and on Facebook under Oribe Hair Care. Be sure to also check out their website, Oribe.

And my favorites?

Soft Lacquer
Dry
Gel Sérum
Volumista
Après Beach
Fiber Groom
Supershine Light

There is also a slew of new products out and coming out. Don't be afraid to ask to try something new, we love that spirit!

This Almost Never Happens

There were no train wrecks last night! I don't mean literally but in case you missed it, last night was the 2013 Academy Awards (Oscars) and everyone looked absolutely amazing. I'm so glad I rushed to Target last minute to pick up an antennae so I could watch the show in it's entirety. This show is always a highlight of my year.  It is one of the main reasons I do what I do and I am still giddy with anticipation as all the celebs arrive on the red carpet. Not only will these styles and dresses be the pictures to walk in the salon for prom and all major events over the next year, this show inspires me to keep doing what I'm doing and to do it even better.

Before I get sappy, I am having a very hard time picking my Best Dressed. I could almost (so, so close) say all of them but there were a few short of amazing and a few that I felt the only thing missing was a personality and perhaps a little graciousness (I think Grumpy Cat knows who I am talking about.)

Without further ado, here are my 2013 Academy Awards Best Dressed List:

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner: The color of her Gucci dress was perfect, her necklace took my breath away, and her turning into a "puddle" anytime she was asked about Ben was enough reason for me to fall more in love with them. And he just gets more and more handsome with age. Impeccable!

George Clooney and Stacy Keibler: This Art Deco inspired Naeem Kahn gown and her lovely faux bob just took me somewhere. She always amazes me with her fantastic taste and her extremely handsome man only adds to the look. I love this dress and I'm kinda surprised I did so much.

Jennifer Lawrence: Bringing the brains and the beauty back to being an incredible ingenue. At 22 years ild this girl never messes up and never loses sight of herself. I love, love, love and admire it. And this Dior gown (for which she is the new face of the design house) was absolutely made for her.

Charlize Theron: She nails it every time and this pixie is making me want short hair again. Oh goodness. Dress by Dior.

Amy Adams: This dove gray Oscar de la Renta beauty is the epitome of Oscar. The neutral gray is unexpected on a red/strawberry haired woman but I really love it!

Jessica Chastain: I knew she had it in her! The waves, the dress and the lips. A trifecta of absolute beauty for this Armani adorned beauty.

Naomi Watts: This striking Armani Privé gown looks as though it was made for her and the soft updo was the perfect compliment to what could have been a very severe dress. Bravo Naomi!!

All these photos were swiped from InStyle and there are many, many more beauties, these just happened to be my favorites. Please check out Christoph Waltz and Daniel Day-Lewis along with Ben and George for what I think is the new 'do for men. Tight with a little room to play. Sounds lovely, right?

If this year's Oscars weren't leaving you yearning for a pixie, a romantic middle-part undo, or a gown then I suggest making an eye exam appointment ASAP.

Do You Dare?

Super model Karlie Kloss' new shorter 'do has been named "The Cut of The Year" by Time magazine.

We have had more than a handful of clients coming in for a winter refresh... Do you dare?

By the way, this major chop was cut by Garren, who is beyond a legend in the hair world. And wouldn't you know that our own favorite Oribe trained under Garren while developing his own ninja hair skills.
